As SL is a limited company, it has a board of directors. It is the board, together with SL’s management, that makes all major, overall traffic service decisions, such as how SL is organised, prices and tickets available, where the buses go and if new train stations are to be built.
SL’s board of directors consists of politicians elected by the County Council Assembly, and employee representatives. The political majority in the county is also reflected in SL’s board.

Organisation of the company

At SL there are approximately 500 people working with planning, purchasing, administration, development and marketing of the public transport service in the County of Stockholm. The overall work is run by the managing director, who also has a group of staff to help him/her. The managing director answers to the SL board of directors.

SL is a procurement organisation and is responsible for ensuring that there is a good network of public transportation alternatives in the County of Stockholm and that our passengers receive as much as possible for their money. We therefore procure large quantities of services and goods.
 
The procurements are made by each respective unit within SL, but it is the board that makes the decisions about the major procurements.
